Born Free by [archiveofourown.org profile] cndnsdmlk
Belle | 3:27 | G | Dido Elizabeth Belle/John Davinier
Music: Be About It by Lira
Summary: If you don't like how it is, what you gonna do to change it?
+ Belle's journey, her place in the world, and fight. Tense and triumphant and emotional.

an idea whose time has come by [archiveofourown.org profile] beethechange
Buzzfeed RPF | 12,931 words | PG-13 | Ryan/Shane
Summary: Or: 5 times Ryan Bergara sort of joked that they should blow this popsicle stand,
+1 time he definitely didn’t joke about it.
+ It's a love story, slow, and with long term planning.

want you in my room by [archiveofourown.org profile] beethechange
Buzzfeed RPF | 13,425 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane
As they watch, Tall Guy takes his beanie off, revealing a mess of thick, shiny brown hair. He runs his hand through it to shake out the hat hair and Ryan feels like he’s stuck in an Herbal Essences commercial, except he’s the one making inappropriate lustful noises.
Ryan adjusts his snapback, determined. He is, after all, wearing his very finest basketball shorts, without even a single hole at the hem, and the knowledge puts an extra spring in his step.
“I’m gonna climb that dude like a tree,” he tells Curly.

+ Wherein Ryan flirts and woos and Shane is oblivious, but also into it, sometimes in spite of himself. A bit charming and funny.

An Arranged Marriage by [archiveofourown.org profile] Josselin
Captive Prince | 17,785 words | NC-17 | Damen/Laurent
Afterwards his father only remarked, “His features are very fine.”
“I am not marrying him for his features,” said Damen.
“No, you are marrying him for his dowry,” said Theomedes.

+ A what-if AU, where Laurent fixes everything, basically. It's been a while since I read this, but I remember lots of plotting and untangling along with a slow-blooming romance.

Hold It All At Bay by [archiveofourown.org profile] psocoptera
Check Please! | 49,957 words | NC-17 | Jack/Bitty
Summary: The theory of extrapolative synchronization of the mirror neurons was debunked back when he was still in his teens, so Jack is reluctant to mention that he can smell Bitty's pies baking from across campus.
+ Different take on the soulbonding thing. Angst, how the things you get taught as a kid can mess with you, and overcoming that. Possibly my favourite thing about this fic is actually Jack's anxiety crocodile metaphor. (I didn't watch the video linked in the authors notes until long after I read the fic and was trying to re-find it, but it's a super cute animated French short with English subtitles.)

Bones by [archiveofourown.org profile] mithborien
Crimson Peak | 4:15 | PG-13 | Edith Cushing
Music: Bones by MSMR
Summary: "Ghosts are real, this much I know." An Edith Cushing fanvid.
+ This vid is beautiful and absorbing in a way that made me feel like I hadn't seen the film. (Not the case.) Ghosts and monsters and fantastic pacing.

In Geneva by [archiveofourown.org profile] copperbadge
Doctor Who | 9,398 words | PG-13 | The Doctor/Lethebridge Stewart
Summary: The Brigadier was always a companion on his own terms.
+ The Doctor pops in on Lethebridge Stewart, and stays. Domestic and satisfying.

Soldier by [archiveofourown.org profile] runawaynun
The Expanse | 2:56 | G | Chrisjen Avasarala/Bobbie Draper
Music: Soldier by Ingrid Michaelson
Summary: The battle with the heart isn't easily won.
+ Learning to put your trust in someone and fighting by their side. I haven't seen this source material but their story is clearly epic - politics and space walks and gun fights and fleeing in space.

The Unexpected Legacy by [archiveofourown.org profile] FayJay
Guardian | 84,339 words | NC-17 | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan
Summary: Bonibaru said: "I woke up with the hazy image of a Regency AU where Zhao Yunlan comes of age and goes to take over his dead mother's crumbling estate home to escape his domineering father. There he meets a very attractive person - I couldn't choose between a butler or a librarian, but there are so many other choices - but it was very dark and gloomy on the moors and Shen Wei looked amazing, so. Also, there was a ghost, or is really a dark energy creature? Shen Wei has all his powers. Zhao Yunlan has many suspicions but also many inappropriate thoughts."
So - I'm not promising that this will be a full length story, but we're going to have a crack at a bit of Gothic nonsense, Guardian-style. Although I've already taken liberties with her concept, and will doubtless take more...
+ Basically: England, 1813, and fairies instead of Dixing. Zhao Yunlan comes into his inheritance, thrice. (If you wanted an 80K Regency nonsense AU for this fandom, here it is. It's probably also pretty accessible without any canon knowledge.)

Catch Your Voice by [archiveofourown.org profile] lavvyan
Marvel | 14,180 words | PG-13 | Clint/Phil
Summary: Clint keeps telling himself he's not obsessed with Coulson. From the way Natasha keeps laughing at him, she's not buying it either. But it's only a crush if you know what the other guy actually looks like, right?
+ Clint totally has a crush, and he flirts, and pines, also.

Problem by [archiveofourown.org profile] CherryIce
Marvel | 3:18 | G | Carol Danvers
Music: Problem by Natalia Killa
Summary: That girl is a problem. A Carol Danvers vid.
+ Punching and explosions, flights, fights, the anatomy of a woman, friendship, family, and maybe true love. (I haven't seen this source.)

You Are My Baby by [archiveofourown.org profile] hexenmeister
Marvel | 2:46 | G | Gen
Music: You Are My Baby by Kimya Dawson
"you are my baby, but you don't belong to me / what you become, that is up to you."
+ Feelings. Family, parenting, growing up, and grieving. Miles and his father and Uncle Aaron and the spider-verse.

Love You Like That by [archiveofourown.org profile] smilebackwards
Multifandom | 1:27 | G | Gen
Music: Love You Like That by Dagny
Summary: You've got the real thing.
+ This is such a great little shot of happy. There's friendship and dancing. (It's also a bit of a different source mix than I tend to see in multifandom vids, temporally, and that was kind of delightful.)

in the hack by [archiveofourown.org profile] thingswithwings
Schitt's Creek | 2,718 words | G | Alexis/Twyla
Summary: After Ted, and before the Next Thing, Alexis joins a curling team. She's great at it, because, what, like it's hard?
+ I really enjoy Alexis and her competence and the slow unfurling thing with Twyla.

Protein Crystals and Other Precious Stones by [archiveofourown.org profile] CherryIce
Schitt's Creek | 8,240 words | G | David and Alexis
Summary: It’s been at least six months since David’s had to emergency courier Alexis a passport, and it’s great. It really is. It’s what he’s always wanted, David reminds himself, trying not to scratch at what definitely aren’t stress hives on his arms.
OR: Alexis Rose finds something unexpected that she's good at. (She's probably not running a cartel.)
+ AU, captures the whole David-Alexis vibe and had me wheezing with laughter.

High Mountain, How I Long by [archiveofourown.org profile] Minimalistless
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System | 14,019 words | NC-17 | Luò Bīnghé/Shěn Yuán;Shěn Qīngqiū
Summary: Shen Qingqiu, after enduring his trial, is placed into Luo Binghe’s custody at Huan Hua Palace.
+ So one of the author tags is melodrama? ...and Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe are ridiculous people. There's strategic dramatic suffering in the rain to gain sympathy and identity stuff and plot device tea and multiple levels of power differentials and angsty history between them and an incredibly saccharine happy ending. *hands*
kiki_eng: Annie Monroe of The Like wearing sunglasses (bandom) (Annie wearing sunglasses)
it's just breakfast by [archiveofourown.org profile] screamlet
Boy Meets World/Girl Meets World | 5,585 words | G | Shawn/Topanga/Cory
“I hate school I hate school I hate school,” Maya chanted as she ran into her room and slammed the door.
“It’s a necessary evil and I’m sorry you can’t appreciate that right now!” Shawn called back.
Their shitty home printer jammed twice and there was a vertical line running down each page of Maya’s English essay, but hopefully that wouldn’t matter—it was done, it was printed, there was a neat staple in the top left corner and everything was formatted according to the very detailed 8th grade essay guidelines. They would have breakfast downstairs and it would all be okay.

+ OT3 domesticity, a strong Maya & Shawn relationship developing, emotional vulnerability, and love. Excellent show vibes.

that first, initial feeling by [archiveofourown.org profile] varnes
Buzzfeed RPF | 21,276 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane
Summary: “You’re called the Treasure Chest,” Shane says blankly to the man behind the counter, who is looking at him with a completely neutral expression. His name tag suggests that he is called Ryan. “It’s -- literally every sex shop in the history of sex shops was called The Treasure Chest. I’m pretty sure it’s in the by-laws.
“The by-laws ... for sex shops?” Ryan asks.
Shane fixes him with a look. He sells crystals, which means he’s a con man, which means he’s a deviant of at least some kind, which means he’s been to a sex shop and he knows exactly what Shane means. “Listen,” Shane says, and then nothing else, because Ryan The Counter Man pulls an arm behind his head to stretch and the sight of his surprisingly beefy arms short-circuits Shane’s brain.
The man blinks patiently at him. “I’m listening,” he says, encouragingly.

OR: An AU in which Ryan runs a crystals store, and Shane is beguiled by him anyway.
+ One of those if-they-hadn't-met-the-way-they-did-they-would-have-ended-up-in-exactly-the-same-place-anyway AUs. They're just so delighted by each other. The banter in this is great and there's a good amount of feelings, no in this. ♥

Everything by [archiveofourown.org profile] Trelkez
Buzzfeed RPF | 2:09 | PG | Ryan/Shane
Music: Everything by Scruffy the Cat
Summary: Did you just call the demon a motherfucker?
+ This is fun. There's smiling and laughing at each other and Ryan getting freaked out by stuff, a bit. Charming.

Hot Scary Summer by [archiveofourown.org profile] thewindupbird
Buzzfeed RPF | 11,627 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane
Summary: The boys hunt some ghosts, make some impulsive choices, and try their best to sort out what it means to get to the heart of this thing.
+ Navigating America, the supernatural, and their own relationship. There's a kiss and then a whole lot of processing.

Begin the Begin, Over and Over by [archiveofourown.org profile] beethechange
Buzzfeed RPF | 33,398 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane
Summary: Shane only agrees to be handcuffed to Ryan for a video because he can put up with anything for twenty-four hours. That’s the funny thing about time loops, though—they don’t always adhere to the parameters set by clickbait videos.
+ Groundhog Day, and the thing about the set-up is that he's basically dating Ryan, taking Ryan on all the dates. (This thing reminds me of hockey fic, with the way it ties up the personal and the professional; it feels like cup fic.)

Etta Candy's Last Stand by [archiveofourown.org profile] sanguinity
DCU | 1,788 words | PG-13 | Etta/Diana
This is the way Etta is going to die: trapped between a bed and Diana Prince’s breasts.
+ Funny and adorable. Spot-on voices.

Scandal by [archiveofourown.org profile] Gwen77
Game of Thrones | 21,652 words | NC-17 | Brienne/Jaime
Summary: This is a quasi-Victorian AU, set in a nineteenth century version of Westeros.
+ It's a romance novel (like, there are some strong genre ties happening here) and Brienne's a journalist. [personal profile] lazaefair recced this on [community profile] fancake and sold me on it.

the unlocking and the lift away by [archiveofourown.org profile] beyond_belief
Generation Kill | 59,262 words | NC-17 | Brad/Ray
Summary: You can't not build a life just because things might change.
Or, Ray gets an MBA.
+ Ray runs away to Brad's/college with a cat, and then they're roommates. Ray makes friends with his classmates and he and Brad fall in love. There's also some stuff with Ray's family.

家教 - or - Domestic Education by [archiveofourown.org profile] rageprufrock
Guardian | 9,034 words | PG-13 | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan
Summary: Shen Wei is the Ghost King, born out of the unyielding chaos of entropy that had consumed the underworld before the creation of the wheel of reincarnation. He's the cosmic guardian of death and all her darlings, and the universe through the lens of his eye is rife with demons, hungry ghosts, and shadows creeping out of their places. So there is absolutely no way he is getting sick.
+ He is getting sick and Zhao Yunlan and his take care of him. I love the mundane and domesticity and family-ness of this, and the contrast of that and what Shen Wei is is kind of perfect.

Without A Net Upon The Wire by [archiveofourown.org profile] torakowalski
Marvel | 41,982 words | NC-17 | Clint/Phil
Summary: Since he was abandoned by his brother and then the circus, Clint Barton has resigned himself to making his own way in the world. So when he ends up living on the streets of New York in the middle of winter, he’s not expecting to be taken in by injured army veteran, Phil Coulson, or accidentally involved in an escalating war against the Russian mafia.
+ The one where Coulson lives in the tracksuit mafia building and takes a young Clint in and they are both very stubborn about accepting each other's help and liking each other. (Also features Nick, Barney, and Natasha.)

Counterfeit and Counterpart by [archiveofourown.org profile] Frea_O
Marvel | 28,013 words | PG-13 | Maria & Natasha
Summary: Five times Maria Hill doesn’t understand Natasha Romanoff, and why she might be better off that way.
+ Maria-centric, and awesome. There's a road trip in here, and also their beginnings at SHIELD and it does not read like a five times fic, because it's so fluid and you get swept up in their relationship.

love is for children and other lies by [archiveofourown.org profile] Fahye
Marvel | 30,095 words | PG-13 | Natasha
Summary: War is the child's emptiness, the surrender of identity, the transformation into a simple system: purpose goes in, action comes out. (Natalia Alianovna Romanova, and everything that she became.)
+ Natasha's history and her friendship with Clint. She's asexual in this, though that's not a word that's anywhere but the tags.

Citation Flirtation by [archiveofourown.org profile] scioscribe
Marvel | 3,166 words | PG-13 | Shuri/OFC
Summary: Shuri's paper is refuted in a subclause of a footnote. This means war. (And somehow eventually takeout and fully-funded projects and kissing.)
+ This is so good. Crushes and posturing.

Good Lives by [archiveofourown.org profile] jibrailis
Naruto | 7,637 words | PG-13 | Gai/Kakashi
Summary: Gai accidentally becomes first lady of Konoha.
+ Gai is fantastic. Kakashi starts getting him to do ceremonial stuff and *points at summary*.

cultivating in themselves something by [archiveofourown.org profile] thingswithwings
Schitt's Creek | 5,090 words | NC-17 | David/Patrick
Patrick shrugs with one shoulder. “I just―it’s a nice fantasy. I thought you might like to play with it."
“And the fantasy is . . . ?” David lets his hands roam over Patrick’s sides and back, stroking slowly.
“Hot, repressed gay guy comes into the store,” Patrick says, beginning the scene.

+ God, they're so in love, and there's so much communication in this, and it feels celebratory, of fantasy and sexuality and sex; it's great.

Watching Through Windows by [archiveofourown.org profile] helvetica_upstart
Schitt's Creek | 38,537 words | NC-17 | David/Patrick
Summary: David gapes at the man calling himself David’s husband. “You think I’m falling for the married amnesiac trap? Yeah, no, my sister has been-there done-that and sent me the Embassy’s postcards.”
Or, David falls off a ladder and can’t remember Schitt’s Creek. Things fall apart and come back together.
+ I love how complicated this is, detailed and thought out. This is incredibly rich and full of feelings.

do u expect me, a gay, to remember everything i write by [archiveofourown.org profile] lazulisong
The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System | 3,973 words | PG-13 | Mòběi-jūn/Shàng Qīnghuá
"What?" says Shang Qinghua. "No, he's not. Why would he court me? He thinks I'm like, a hamster.
"Okay, then why is he dropping like, monsters and shit at your door?" says Cucumber-bro. "That's how they like, show people they can provide for them or whatever."
"Why would they do that!" shrieks Shang Qinghua. "I never --"
"It was a plot point, dude," says Cucumber-bro, in the slow, patient voice of someone speaking to a stupid dog. "It was an actual, literal plot point you typed in with your own like, sinful hands."
"No it wasn't," says Shang Qinghua immediately. "I think I would like, fucking remember writing a scene where some chick gets an actual fucking dragon corpse dropped on her door and immediately gives it up for the person who brought it!"

+ I do not know this fandom, but this is very fun and has some entertaining trope takes.

The Rose of Terok Nor by [archiveofourown.org profile] cicak
Star Trek | 12,167 words | PG-13 | Bashir/Garak
Summary: It's five years after the war and everyone's talking about the hottest new publishing sensation out of Cardassia, The Rose of Terok Nor.
In which roses don't shine, spelling over instant messenger is still fraught, limited edition art books are acquired, and it's all true, especially the lies.
+ After he returns to Cardassia Garak rewrites his past as a soppy love story starring serial-numbers-filed-off versions of himself and Julian; a teenaged Cardassian female gets Julian to read it.

A Brief Introduction to Live Action Roleplaying by [archiveofourown.org profile] wldnst
Teen Wolf | 28,171 words | PG-13 | Danny/Stiles
Summary: Jackson tells Danny he's a werewolf. Danny gets werewolf advice from a stranger on the internet. Things escalate from there.
+ Identity porn and teenaged romance. Sweet.

A Fever Moon by [archiveofourown.org profile] morphosyntactic
Teen Wolf | 4,649 words | NC-17 | Danny/Stiles
Summary: Danny has only ever been human, and he’s pretty sure there’s meant to be some kind of rule, an unwritten moral code of the gay scene: you are not obligated to be every straight boy’s experiment, you should leave them to work through their confusion alone. The thing is, though, Danny is one of just two guys who are out and proud in the whole school. Beacon Hills is a small town.
+ Danny and Stiles get drunk and fool around. It's a good thing.
kiki_eng: Totoro holds purple umbrella and sits with child on hill, apparently observing clouds. Cursive text: "perfect" (perfect)
I got rid of my tabs and then somehow had the same amount of tabs a couple weeks later.

The Bad Touch by [archiveofourown.org profile] sweetestdrain
Buzzfeed RPF | 4:21 | PG | Gen/GSF
Music: The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang
Summary: "Let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel." Or: What WILL they try next?
+ [The Try Guys are independent of Buzzfeed now, but a lot of the footage from this is from there (all of it, maybe?) and I am going to tag them as Buzzfeed (forever, probably).] They're fun, and always so enthusiastic and silly and this More Joy Day vid captures that perfectly, and is a joy. Dancing, costumes, comedy, nudity, animals (fuzzy and otherwise), eroticism, and general shenanigans.

Let's Get Into The Theories by [archiveofourown.org profile] bessyboo
Buzzfeed RPF | 2:28 | G | Ryan & Shane
Music: I've Got A Theory/Bunnies/If We're Together from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Summary: I've got a theory.
+ This vid is perfect - A+ usage of semi-unusual audio. Adorable light comedy.

even the stars hide away by [archiveofourown.org profile] thingswithwings
Community | 3,346 words | PG-13 | Troy/Abed
Summary: Troy and Abed meet the in-laws.
+ This feels very real, how young they are in some ways, the difficulty of navigating relationships with family, the way you compartmentalise bits of yourself. Abed and Troy are so supportive of each other and growing great. It's wonderful.

my words will be your light by [archiveofourown.org profile] dollsome
Game of Thrones | 1,473 words | G | Sansa/Tyrion
Summary: Sansa and Tyrion have another conversation. Set after 8x01.
+ I have not watched this show but I ship it. This is very much post-episode shipping fic with (I think at the time?) canon-compliant relationship development, talking things out on the way to moving forward together. Quiet.

meditations ex post facto by [archiveofourown.org profile] singlecrow
Guardian | 9,253 words | PG | Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan
Summary: "It is very tedious,” Professor Shen agrees, setting down his cup of tea. “I admire your forbearance.”
“I have no forbearance,” Zhao Yunlan assures him. “I get drunk a lot and throw things.”

or, the lawyers AU that no one asked for.
+ This is one of my favourite things I've read in years. It's this beautiful unfurling of things; it feels like spring. The structure of the AU is great - the role transfer from SI to municipal legal counsel is stellar, the characterisation is spot-on all around and there's taking care of each other and backing each other up, and dealing with West Wing-type problems and the Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan dynamic is keyboard smash levels of perfect. There's identity stuff in this and hjfkhlgdjkgkkjlfdjl;gada.

Ordinary Numbers by [archiveofourown.org profile] BootsnBlossoms and [archiveofourown.org profile] Kryptaria
James Bond | 44,168 words | PG-13 | James/Q
Summary: More than anything, Mike Taylor wanted to be ordinary. Being a genius, he learned early in life, meant people expected too much. A career at the MI6 Help Desk seemed the perfect way to guarantee a lifetime of obscurity, until he got a very unusual tech support call.
+ Q is hyper-competent in spite of himself and a tech snafu leads to Bond adopting him as his personal mission tech support; they basically accidentally fall in love with each other over a series of phone calls and woo the shit out of each other, like, this is kind of curtain!fic where they haven't met and then they figure out and deal with the fact that they're in a relationship at the end. Office fic with a tiny bit of identity porn en route to a more canon compliant ending, includes action sequences and peril.

I Did Something Bad by [archiveofourown.org profile] jarrow
Killing Eve | 3:46 | R | Eve/Villanelle
Music: I Did Something Bad by Taylor Swift
Summary: It just felt so good.
+ Source material I haven't seen. Revelatory and progressively darker narrative. Blood and knives, guns and poison, violence and unravelling.

Little bit more by [archiveofourown.org profile] blithesea
Killing Eve | 2:25 | R | Eve/Villanelle
Music: Little Bit More by Tony C. And The Truth
Summary: Villanelle being gleefully psychopathic. Sandra Oh's face.
+ Violent lesbians to bad-ass country. The treatment of murder in this vid reminds me of the Dexter aesthetic.

Still The One (That's In Love With You) by [archiveofourown.org profile] lilly_the_kid
Marvel | 1:57 | PG | Eddie/Venom
Music: Still The One by Ingrid Michaelson
you saved my life, I'll save yours too
+ this has some really great characterisation bits while also simultaneously being fluffy tentacle monster goo

Melodrama by [archiveofourown.org profile] mithborien
Marvel | 2:52 | PG | Gamora & Nebula
Music: Melodrama by Lorde
Summary: "You were the one who wanted to win. I just wanted a sister!"
A Gamora & Nebula fanvid during GOTG2.
+ Fraught, full of feelings, very pretty.

the family brooklyn by [archiveofourown.org profile] tactfulGnostalgic
Marvel | 12,874 | PG-13 | Miles Morales
Summary: New York is notoriously protective of its superheroes.
+ This made me cry, almost - dry ugly sobs - they just love him so much and want to take care of him. ...and it's also slice of life about Miles figuring out how to be a superhero - stuff about copyright law and other practical stuff, and Brooklyn is tagged as a character and this is like John/Atlantis fic; it's Miles/Brooklyn and it's beautiful. The feels snuck up on me and punched me in the gut.

The Fifties by [archiveofourown.org profile] speranza
Marvel | 28,185 words | NC-17 | Bucky/Steve/Peggy
Summary: "Because everything's all right, isn't it?" Bucky said. "Everything's great. I'm so happy; I never thought I could be this happy. You're happy, too, aren't you, Peg?"
+ Poly fic with relationship and career discussion and development along with some great sci-fi.

Bad Girls by [archiveofourown.org profile] elipie
Ocean's 8 | 3:41 | PG | Lou/Debbie
Music: Bad Girls by M.I.A.
Summary: If you're going to have a problem with stealing, then you're not going to like the rest of this conversation.
+ Excellent recruiter vid, solid vibe and femslash. Stylishly bad-ass lady criminals getting what they want.

a country you remember by [archiveofourown.org profile] waspabi
Rivers of London | 1,355 words | G | Molly
Summary: When a girl goes into service, people like to think she pledges fealty to the family, but that isn’t true. She serves the house.
+ when I make that home rec set, this is meant to be in it. Molly finding a home and being part of it - excellent character study and house spirit fic, basically.

The Rock and The River by [archiveofourown.org profile] Rhea
Spirited Away | 17,442 | PG-13 | Chihiro/Haku
Summary: Chihiro takes magic and bends it around herself to make a place in the world.
+ I think there's a few errant SPAG issues with this but I don't quite remember and sort of don't give a shit because this fic is awesome. College and part time jobs and finding and building your place in the world and magic and living. Food porn and long-distance relationships, also.

What Buddies Know About Love by [archiveofourown.org profile] busaikko
Stargate: Atlantis | 5,432 words | G | John/Ronon
Summary: Ronon's making his own future; John's there for him. Ronon thinks it's time to take the next step in their relationship; John has reservations. Neither of them wants to talk about it, but they do anyway. (Contains canon pairings).
+ Language and culture and finding your person. John is ace in this and Ronon essentially proposes and I love them. Domesticity and therapy and taking care of each other and tattoos, also. Funny and sweet.

Your First Time Should Be Special by [archiveofourown.org profile] Helenish
Star Trek | 6,650 words | NC-17 | Kirk/Spock
The thing about being a captain of a starship is that you forget how to break up with people; the starship is a gigantic, unmistakable clue that you're probably not sticking around.
+ Relationship development with Jim taking it slow for Spock and having a bunch of self-worth issues that he's unable to express. There's some offscreen Bones and Spock friendship stuff that I really enjoyed, also, along with the Bones and Kirk stuff.

Somewhere to Start by [archiveofourown.org profile] lissadiane
Teen Wolf | 33,552 | PG-13 | Derek/Stiles
Summary: Stiles has always known that he isn't quite human - the plant life that tends to sprout around him whenever he gets upset or excited gives it away. He's never really fit in among the regular people in Beacon Hills and is determined to wait it out, go to college, and find somewhere to belong. He's forced to abandon those plans, however, after he desperately agrees to enter into an arranged marriage to save his father's life.
An arranged marriage with an angry, sometimes furry dude with trust issues. It's all very Beauty and the Beast, without the singing candlesticks.
+ Enforced captivity, supernatural politics, and kids are key parts of this. It's an alive Hale family fic, Stiles has been cut off from the supernatural his whole life and then gets plunged into it and used as a pawn, Derek is surly and the whole thing is kind of fandom-takes-on-fairy-tales/magical-realism at its best. Solid long!fic.

+ I love this song choice so much and this is such a great narrative vid.

Another Bad Habit by [archiveofourown.org profile] blacktofade
Buzzfeed RPF | 10,238 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane
Summary: Shane has a thing for virgins, which Ryan just so happens to be.

Keeping Out the Cold by [archiveofourown.org profile] blacktofade
Buzzfeed RPF | 28,044 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane

Will Wonders Never Cease by [archiveofourown.org profile] porcupinegirl
Check Please! | 56,840 words | PG-13 | Jack/Bitty
Summary: Eric has landed his dream job: social media manager for the Providence Falconers! Not only does he get paid to tweet, for an NHL team at that, but it’s a job where he’ll be able to make good use of his magic - when nobody’s looking, of course. Everyone on the Falconers is a joy to work with… with the notable exception of Jack Zimmermann. Eric understands that Jack doesn’t like social media, but he could certainly be a little more polite about it.
Luckily, Eric has support from his Samwell buddies, as well as his best friend - a man whose face he’s never seen, and whose name he doesn’t know. They met on an online forum where witches can gather anonymously, since it isn’t safe for them to advertise their existence in a world where magic isn’t trusted. They’ve been friends for years now, but Eric is only just starting to realize that he might have deeper feelings for someone he can never meet face-to-face.
+ because sometimes what you want to read is identity porn long!fic about online friendship and people being disappeared by the state. (I have some questions.)

You Dance Dreams by [archiveofourown.org profile] lady_ragnell
Les Miserables | 61,252 words | NC-17 | Enjorlas/Grantaire
Summary: For most of college, Grantaire was hopeless over Enjolras, and everyone but Enjolras knew it. Now he’s worked to get over his crush, and for the most part, he's fine. When Combeferre asks him to choreograph and dance in the Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired opera he composed as his senior thesis, Grantaire says yes, even though he’s cast opposite Enjolras, as Puck to his Oberon. The chance to dance is worth the potential problems, and he'll have his friends as a buffer.
He doesn't count on long hours of practicing and choreographing and talking together, while they try to figure each other and their futures out. As much as he tries to avoid it, it seems inevitable that he falls for Enjolras again, and this time it isn't a crush.
+ Words and words of music and dance nerds and repressed feelings. ♥ There is also friendship and poly triads, and that thing where everyone's graduating and needs to find a job somewhere.

OR: David and Patrick have some alone time. Patrick has some ideas.
+ I know Eugene Levy's kid from the Canadian version of bake-off and have never seen this show, but Patrick (not played by Dan) is the newly discovered queer one and he and David (played by Dan) are kind of adorable nerds.

Gotta Get Back In Time (Get Back, Claude) by [archiveofourown.org profile] merryofsoul
Hockey RPF | G | 7,832 words | Claude/Danny
Time travel.
It’s not like it’s completely unheard of, it’s just not really talked about. The exact cause is something that hasn't been pinpointed either, which is only made harder by the fact that no one really talks about it when it happens. It could be stress, happiness, or some odd combination. Claude doesn't know.
He doesn't even know if he's supposed to keep it a secret or not. He never thought this would be something that would happen to him, so he never paid any attention in the mandatory seminars.
That really came back to bite him in the ass.

+ Tropes and schmoop, I think, also some angst and it's retirement fic? (It's been a while since I read this.)

fight like girls for our place at the table by [archiveofourown.org profile] napricot
Marvel | NC-17 | 52,110 words | Sharon/Natasha
Summary:“Am I on Cap watch because of who my aunt is?” Sharon asks Fury point-blank the second she sits in his office.
“That’s part of the reason, yeah,” Fury says. Sharon narrows her eyes at him, and opens her mouth to object. “But not all of the reason. This isn’t a demotion.”
“It sure feels like a demotion. You’re taking me out of the field and out of intel analysis to babysit Captain America.”

How Sharon Carter gets her groove back, fucks up some Nazis, and gets the girl, with unasked for assists from a super soldier couple.
+ I liked how realistically awkward Sharon and Natasha were about wanting to date each other and how that had nothing to do with either of their sexualities. I loved Sharon's nursing home visits and the holes this filled.

“The same condition—Ryan. I’m not spending hours in a gym every day so you don’t lose muscle mass.”
“I want you to treat my body with the respect you would a national park. Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but memories.”

A certain meddling Voodoo Queen of New Orleans thinks Ryan and Shane need some new perspective on life. After an inadvisable ritual deposits Ryan in Shane’s body, and Shane in Ryan’s, the ghoulboys pursue some soul-searching and self-discovery to put things right. Sometimes in a sexy way.

Check Please! | R | 25,096 words | Jack/Eric
Summary: Eric Bittle may be newly single, but that’s not going to stop him from keeping his dinner reservation for Harvest Haus, one of the Boston area’s most exclusive new restaurants. He’s expecting a great meal and a few pictures for social media bragging rights, maybe a nice story for his blog. What he isn’t expecting is to discover the restaurant’s reclusive, anonymous chef is none other than Jack Zimmermann — his former hockey captain and unrequited crush, who hasn’t been heard from since abruptly leaving the NHL eight years ago.
A second chance au where Jack and Bitty never kissed at graduation, but maybe it’s not too late to get it right the second time around.
+ A maybe slightly depressing AU concept with friendship-rebuilding and slow domesticity.

I also feel like there's, like, narrative and themes around gender in here that - totally cool! fun! but - I don't think would happen in a vid today. but yes I liked this vid and had Sports Night feelings watching it (I watched Sports Night this month. Buzzfeed RPF | NC-17 | 21,847 words | Ryan/Shane
Shane is pacing around the hotel room. It’s not a huge room and Shane’s legs are long enough that he doesn’t have much real estate to pace before he has to swing back around for another loop.
“Can you stop?” Ryan asks. “You’re making me dizzy.”
“Okay,” Shane says finally. “Okay. Here’s what we’re going to do. We’re just going to—we’re going to be married. The only way out is through.”
“Um,” Ryan says, because this plan strikes him as counterproductive to their shared goal of not being married.

I should probably mention that I'm on pillowfort now, and I think they're in their last beta-wave before membership goes with funding, so you might want to sign up for the closed beta now rather than later. I haven't really done anything with it yet but my first impression is basically that it's like tumblr but with journal-style communities.

I did indeed watch Sports Night for the first time this month, after falling into Dan/Casey fic and needing to know why there was a C6D-type crossover. (I was contemplating a The West Wing re-watch, so something else Sorkin seemed like a good, less time-intensive compromise. It was. I like Sorkin's yearning/striving towards a collective dream/ideal.) I didn't know that Joshua Malina was in it and that was super interesting because of the character similarities with The West Wing and also he sparkles in this and kind of steals the show, a bit. It's a sitcom and there are these gender roles and romance things that happen which were sort of bewildering and a little bit dated, I think, which is sort of a nicer reality to be living in, really. Tim DeKay and Clark Gregg both have guest-type roles, and I mourned the loss of the show for the loss of the latter's character, a bit - they were going somewhere with him.

Elizabeth | G | 2,295 words
Summary: Elizabeth goes home. Various things happen. (Also contains moderate doses of floppy shoes, tennis rackets, bums and a treasure.)

This is very simple and Munsch-like and kind of wonderful.

At Tilde by [archiveofourown.org profile] copperbadge
Matilda by Roald Dahl | Marvel
Matilda | G | 1,247 words
Summary: Matilda turns hacker, impresses Tony Stark, and fails to be swayed by Charles Xavier.

There's something tremendously satisfying about people telling Xavier "no". I love this; Matilda is wonderfully herself and the path that she chooses is realistic.

a home for every season by [archiveofourown.org profile] dirgewithoutmusic
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis | The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Susan | G | 4,042 words
Summary: Susan Pevensie goes to Middle Earth
Let’s talk about a Susan who never moved on, who buried her family in English soil and spent the rest of her life trying to find her way home. She did not believe lions were kind, but she always remembered a bow in her schoolgirl hands. She looked in every old wardrobe she came across. It was casual, everyday– the first day in a new lecture hall, she checked the back of the coat closet. Friends had her over for Christmas dinner and she excused herself to go the bathroom, checked every cabinet and closet, and then headed back in for pudding. She went home with a cute boy she met in a smoky little pub and she checked his wardrobe before she headed home the next morning, heels in hand.

Part agonising, part defiant, part hopeful.

Young Avengers
Rating: PG-13 | 3,543 words | Kate Bishop/America Chavez
Summary: America has never pretended she can’t be hypocritical, but she’s also a hell of a lot better at subtlety than Teddy is. Which is why nobody’s plaguing her to ask out Weirdly Graceful Trust Fund Student.
I think that really all I want in a Young Avengers Diner AU is America being snarky and hooking up with Kate. This has that, the other Young Avengers tucked in well, pop culture references, and a lot of Marvel cameos in the form of those names you make up for people when you don't know what they call themselves. It's fun.

Waiting On by [archiveofourown.org profile] thehoyden
Inception
Rating: PG-13 | 2,173 words | Arthur/Eames
Summary: "French toast, pancakes, steak and eggs -- I could make you anything in the world, pet, but no. Egg-white omelette, morning after morning. It shows a distinct lack of imagination."
This is basically adorable. I love the kind of almost-domesticity that springs up with Eames taking care of Arthur each morning before Arthur's quite pulled himself together, and I love Eames' flirting and Arthur's reaction to it. It's charming.

Of Reddest Stolen Cherries by [personal profile] words_instead
American Idol RPF
Rating: PG-13 | ~26,000 words | Kris Allen/Adam Lambert
Summary: Kris owns an inter-dimensional cafe! Kris doesn't know he owns an inter-dimensional cafe.
Kris runs a cafe that is right on some kind of nexus between worlds so a good chunk of his staff and customers are fantastical beings and Kris dismisses any weirdness he detects as a result of it being in Los Angeles. Fairy tale fantasy crossed over with a bit of foodporn and the mundane. It is glorious, glorious fluff; it's joyous. Kris makes fantastic food and they take on the Wild Hunt. There's a pillow fort.

Tony Stark is no less a wild cannon as a superhero than in his previous incarnation; vigilantes are fucking dangerous. I’m pretty impressed with this vid, because it both sends that message and has made me realise that Tony Stark reminds me of some of the people I went to school with. It’s a character piece, and the song it’s set to is both very fitting for Tony Stark and pretty damn amusing.

Advances in Thermodynamics by [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice
Rating: PG-13
It’s a crossover with Firefly, so it’s not Mal Reynolds that picks Kaylee Frye up from Jefferson; it’s Tony Stark. It’s pretty much as awesome as it sounds, which is to say that I kind of have an urge to draw up a banner proclaiming “mech-geeks forever!” and start blaring “She Blinded Me With Science.” There’s a lot of this set in workshops and around ships, and I love Kaylee and Tony.

Helpmate by [livejournal.com profile] subterrain

It’s the AU in which Pepper Potts is a cis-gendered man and Shia LaBeouf takes Gwenyth Paltrow’s role*. It’s interesting. It’s a Pepper-centric story and it’s Tony Stark/Pepper Potts. Pepper’s a punk-ass kid, like Tony, and has a history.

*It’s one of those authorial casting things rather than RPF. Personally, I want to see the Iron Man AU where Tony Stark is played by Lena Headey.
