Highlander
I don’t know Highlander, not really, and clearly I need to get on that, because the people in this vid are awesome. There’s romance and squabbling and flirting and tension and chemistry and shenanigans and classiness. I love the story that’s told here and am seriously impressed by how incredibly cool this vid is. It’s got rhythm and it’s fun and sexy.

The X-Files
There’s a lot of The X-Files in this, how it works and what the show is. The song is kind of hilarious, in that it totally is what The X-Files is about, that shit is fucked up and you’re being lied to, and you kind of get the same sort of barrage of the imperative as you do in the show - Trust No One, Fight the Future. The video does a really good job of matching the audio and it’s fascinating and has really good flow.

I’m Not a Virgin Anymore by [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett
Highlander
This vid is seriously fun. Duncan settles the score with Methos, which is that he is not, in fact, a virgin anymore. This is to say that most of the footage used in this is of Duncan having sex and being involved in various acts of sexiness. It’s joyful and has likely given me a slightly skewed perception of the show, which I can not say that I mind. The vid’s funny and kind of adorable.

Black Cat by [livejournal.com profile] flummery
The Sentinel
"Since the black cat crossed my path I ain't never looked back." It’s a vid about the many woes of the lifestyle of Jim Ellison, but, you know, he also gets a Blair, so things are pretty good. There’s something strangely uplifting about the minor misfortunes of others, so between that and the shipping it’s satisfying and happy-making. It’s cute.

The X-Files
The song that this is set to sounds like it could have come off the first film’s soundtrack; it’s such an X-Files song. This is another vid that’s very much the show. There’s conspiracy and darkness and paranoia and things that go bump in the night. There’s also pain and joy and wonder and power walks and explosions here along with a lot of the Mulder and Scully relationship.
(Song: Hell of a Place by AutoVaughn)

Xena
It’s been a number of years since I’ve seen Xena and while I knew that there was sensual female dancing, I'd kind of forgotten how much of it there is. This vid is so much about that, the sensuality and the femininity, that the Xena/Gabrielle aspect feels secondary in comparison. It’s a mood piece, which I always find really neat.

Macdonald Hall is Fabulous by Nimori
The Macdonald Hall Series by Gordon Korman
Rating: PG-13
This is ridiculous in the ways that that age is ridiculous; it reminds me of being that old and a little mad and manic, conspiring in strange and joyful ways and sometimes keeping paperwork about it. (It makes me want to read the series.) The characters are fabulous, wonderful, precocious, and quirky. Boots is likewise wonderful, along with being bitter, understated, and just a tiny bit manic. There are some wonderful lines in this. Amazing lines.

On the Road by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock
The Macdonald Hall Series by Gordon Korman
Rating: NC-17
This fic amazes me, because it takes the characters from where they were in the series, tosses them through the time vortex, and puts them right where they ought to be, or could be. Bruno's on the democratic presidential campaign trail, and while that sounds like an AU fic, it's not; it jives perfectly with the characters. There's a gritty-ness to it. It's gorgeous and a little fucked up. Bruno is wonderfully idealistic and a little betrayed by the world. I kind of want [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock's Bruno and Boots to come and live under my desk with Jeroen.

Lost by Francesca
The Sentinel
Rating: NC-17
(I'm not entirely sure that Sentinel counts as an unknown fandom for me, I kind of fell into it through Batman and have picked up a fair bit of canon knowledge. I've not seen the source material, though, so I'm counting it here.)

Blair's a doctoral student, working on a thesis on ancient warrior cultures in general and Sentinels in particular. Sentinels are a bit mythic but he finds one - Jim - and gets taken on as some sort of liaison or special expert at Jim's station. They're partners and Blair ends up moving into his apartment and becomes his guide. (In canon this means that he helps Jim manage the heightened senses that are Jim's mythic ability) He can't expose Jim's freaky abilities, though.

This fic is about what that means and does a lot to explain canon's interpretation of guides. There's a lot of emotion packed in this, and also, you know, a sex scene.

RPF ): Panic at the Disco
Rating: NC-17
This might be the best story I could have possibly read as my first bandom and first RPF fic, because it's an AU in which one of the band members isn't, and approaches instead from the perspective of a complete outsider. It's cute. There's some rather good dialogue, and it is rife with all of those little justifications you make to yourself, in fandom and in life. There's also this amazing, twisted, modern-day Cinderella thing happening here which makes me exceedingly happy.
