Can this be ordinary, please?
Apr. 7th, 2009 03:31 amBreakfast with Scot is a film I'm not entirely sure what to do with. It feels like a made for tv movie in some ways, I mean, it's not, but at the same time, it totally is. I'm alright with a certain amount of structuredness and predictability in my entertainment, but it can make a reccomendation slightly problematic.
Breakfast with Scot is good and interesting because of that tv movie vibe that it has. Sam and Eric, a gay couple, have the custody of Sam's rather twee nephew thrust upon them. There's this amazing lack of angst that's highly irregular in a film featuring LGBTQ characters; it's a family film, and it's a lot of fun.
The film's filed under Canadian LGBT-related films on wiki but it doesn't really scan as one; it scans as mainstream, and that's incredibly cool. I'd like to see more like this.

This has much of what I like about fan fiction in it. It explores aspects of Eric's character not fully examined in the film and fleshes him out a bit more, details some of his evolution to where he is now and some relationship development. It clarifies things and is woven together nicely. It's been a while since I did see the film, but I remember Eric on ice being an asshole, but Sam's Eric, not so much. It's set post-accident and does a bit to bridge the gap between the two Erics we see in the film.
Rating: NC-17
Weirdly, the writing of this entry has resulted in the acquisition of a most interesting film by
sobluethesky. Wikipedia says this about it: "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter is a 2001 cult film from Odessa Filmworks which deals with Jesus' modern-day struggle to protect the lesbians of Ottawa, Canada, from vampires with the help of Mexican wrestler El Santo."
