Doctor Who

So. I caught up on Doctor Who tonight. (Three Episodes!) Woo.
I took notes, as one does. Mostly they just consist of the word "River" rendered with different capitalisation, punctuation, and so on. Also, there is the word "what" an awful lot.
Right. Notes and things!
The Impossible Astronaut
I loved the look in at Amy and Rory's domesticity. (Was that an Ikea bookshelf?)
On a sets note - the corridor in these first two episodes is the same one as The Runaway Bride's, yeah? (The one with the mopeds? Only with different lighting?)
I loved how River destroyed the Stetson as soon as she arrived, how that was the first order of business, upon meeting The Doctor again. I'm also seriously enjoying the matching diaries for some reason.
There were some awesome lines in this:
"It adds more fizz!"
"Hippie." "Archaeologist." (I did hear that one right, yeah?)
"They're Americans!" (Yes, so many times, yes.)
"...twelve jammy dodgers and a fez."
"Lovely fellows. Two of them fancied me."
"Let's see if anyone tries to kill us and work backwards."
"Careful. Tried that once, ever so dull."
I loved Canton. Canton was awesome. I love how he looked up. (No one ever looks up, and then terrible things happen to them, so someone with sense is awesome.)
Day of the Moon
The Area 51 bit was fun, it being properly labeled and all that.
I liked River's wardrobe in this and Amy and Rory's hair. Professional hair is awesome.
I love how River thinks, how she sees all her options.
That building was like every haunted house ever, and the chair that they had Amy strapped to, did anyone else go to the Ancient-Wraith tech place?
I loved how they used Nixon. It was like, "Hello. We have the president. Your argument is invalid."
Quotes:
"It's not Apollo 11. That would be silly. ...it's Neil Armstrong's foot." (Oh, Doctor.)
"Archaeology. Love tombs."
The Curse of the Black Spot
I have serious issues when the TARDIS disappears. It's like, Daleks, Cyberman, things that go bump in the night, the Doctor's Dying, Rory's dying, whatever, but WHERE HAS THE TARDIS GONE. *bites nails*
I liked the mobile on deck. The beads and seashells were snazzy.
...also Amy going pirate on everyone's asses. That was nice.
"Toby! Rory! The TARDIS!"
...and then Space Pirates. The Space Pirates were nice.
River was freaking awesome in these episodes, and I liked getting a bit more of a look at where she's coming from. I'm kind of seriously thrown by the kissing thing.
I'm also beginning to suspect that if they continue in this quest to make Rory the biggest woobie ever I may have issues.
The pregnancy thing is seriously throwing me. I don't really have a reaction beyond "What." I seriously wasn't expecting it to be continued beyond the first mention, I was expecting it to be explained away with the sick thing and "must tell Doctor something" urge.
The girl is like this big flashing, "I am here for a cliff-hanger later." sign, and they've played enough around with regeneration-type side effects before, that I'm not really all that interested in who she is at this point.
I am excited for Time Lords, though. (I would like the Master back. I do not expect to get him back just yet, but that would be nice.)
Also: The Doctor made an army. He gave them instructions to kill the enemy on sight and took away their power to disobey. No one else did that; he did that.
Theoretically, and unrelatedly, if I were to be working on a Tonks/Luna university/superpowers AU, would anyone be interested in helping out with that?

Date: 2011-05-11 09:06 am (UTC)The first episode is so quotable! (And yes, you heard the Archeologist bit right)
You are right about the Doctor creating an army. That is... skeevy :o/ I hadn't really thought about that, tbh.
I am beginning to feel that the only way to slightly redeem the pregnancy arc is to have Amy's Choice be a part of it, somehow, although I can't really see how. Otherwise it's just too much.
I am not terribly well versed in HP femslash, but if you want me to, I'll give it a go.

Date: 2011-05-11 01:35 pm (UTC)Thanks for the offer. I'm in the beginning poking stages right now, trying to figure out what the universe looks like in a bit more detail and what the heck I want to do in it. I want to finish it before 3W4DW is over and could use another set of eyes in a couple days if you're still willing/available then.
