OK, so I had a plan.

kiki_engIt was a nice plan. I was going to do a post on the various Idol series. There are... more than I expected. So, it was the beginnings of a plan, okay?
I was going to link to some of the stuff from Nouvelle Star: Julien Doré's jazz cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lussi Lebrun's Whole Lotta Love, and various things including Ramón and François' performance of Vous permettez, monsieur? I can not actually find that, but it is okay, because I found something better. It's a fanvid! It's beautiful. I am so excited. It is set to Adam Lambert's Fever which just makes it that much better, cosmically. ...and now I ship them.
...that last bit was supposed to be a cultural contrast to American Idol - Vous permettez, monsieur? is the song they're in the matching blue and orange suits for - but, all I can say now is that I was totally distracted while I was watching that season, because I do not remember the ass-touching, or the part where François hoists Ramón up on stage, bridal style, and Ramón kisses him, for no other reason than they were happy and wanted to. I mean, they're both kind of ridiculous as people, and bros, totally bros, but now I am totally wondering if they ran off together after the series, because the part where François is absently caressing Ramón's neck, that was kind of slashy.
...anyway. I was going to link to Kris Allen's version of Heartless, and look up some of the other American stuff, and this is where I started to get into trouble, actually, because the top 10 performances lists that are out there are actually really boring to me, so, I went looking for the Canadian stuff, instead, because I knew, at least, becausesinesofinsanity had shown me a clip, that some guy had trolled the show singing Bowie.
...and then I went and looked Jacob Hoggard up, and he's the one from Hedley. So, I watched some more performances, because I wanted to figure out what the heck he was doing. ...and I've probably watched something like eight different clips now, including two Hedley videos for comparison, and I have a working theory now, but I still do not actually know. The only thing that I have been able to ascertain with any degree of certainty, is quite possibly something I only noticed because Ben Mulroney pointed it out: he has, or at least did in 2004, a nice ass. (I mean, I am not really a good judge of asses, but it seems to be very present but not overly large, which I understand is the goal?)
Put Your Head On My Shoulder is the Paul Anka song that he sang for Canadian Hits week. He, on the surface, looks a lot like Gene Kelly or Darren Criss' character on Glee in that performance, he has that kind of '50s dancer/student vibe going on, sort of. He is also himself, kept his lip ring in for the performance, and then after shows off his ass (clad in shiny pants) on Ben Mulroney's instigation.
So, basically, I have questions. Jacob Hoggard on Canadian Idol - what was that? ...and just, you know, because, I am curious, and do not know these things - has anyone else out of Canadian Idol had success afterwards? Also, also, um, is the him getting hit on by that one judge standard?
He placed third that season. I mention this for informational purposes. Also, because I keep watching clips, and... this - he 1) does Gordon Lightfoot, and you do not fuck with Lightfoot (he doesn't) 2) gets hit on by the judge, a little 3) fucks with Ben Mulroney - he sucks on his finger, sticks it in Ben's ear and then trails it down the side of his face and down to his chest before pulling it away. I think maybe I should give up on the clips? I keep thinking that things will make sense, and to some extent that is true, but, there are just new layers of strange. What.
