2023/2024 Goals

The second snowflake_challenge of this year is to set yourself some goals for the coming year.

Last year: I set goals for this challenge, and I failed. I failed all my goals, every single one of them. Or did I? (I did, I absolutely did, but) I posted 27 journal entries in 2023.

Yes, the goal was 50, but, look, I ran the stats just now. My peak journal year by post count was 2009; it's amazing that I'm here at all.

I haven't posted more than 27 posts in a year since 2016. 2020-2022 were all single digit years. (They were single digits under five. Two of them were two.)

I failed, but, you know, I think I did okay.

Same goes for the other two goals I made - doing a pared back version of the Worldbuilders Book Club and writing 100 words for a WIP. It was a tough year. I read what I needed to read and, you know, I thought about that specific WIP a lot.

I did something last year, which is better than nothing.

This year: I am getting that post out of my drafts that has been lurking there since the heyday of Merlin and I do not care how I do it.

That's it. That's the goal. Singular.

I also did not finish my goals for 2023, so you're not alone in that lol. And I think what you did get done is still definitely a huge win. Wishing you the best of luck in tackling your goal for this year!

I think I prefer the "enthusiastically setting new goals" part of the process rather than "checking what kind of goals I even wrote in the first place and seeing the balance a year later" haha. Good luck with that draft :D Not sure if you saw merlin_bbc which was recently created, seems propitious!!

Yeah, I'm a big believer in the potential of cycle-based improvements and the necessity of at least one evaluation stage, so: a closing and an opening, because it would have felt weird not doing that for me. (Also those 50 posts were haunting me and I needed closure.)

I did not see the emergence of merlin_bbc but now I feel like a time-traveler that is delightful; thank you.
