Audio: If I Should Have A Daughter by Sarah Kay

This is a really engaging comics vid that packs a really strong emotional punch. The source is a still medium and it's set to spoken word, and it moves and pulls you in, and just might make you cry. It's about love and strength and unrelenting optimism in the face of terrible things.

Terminator Movies | R | 3:30 | Sarah Connor
Summary: Sarah Connor. To tell it straight, I'm trying to build a wall.
Music: L.E.S. Artistes - Santigold

The story of the Terminator films, about Sarah's voyage, fighting the darkness with all you have, and hammering yourself into a weapon in the fire. This vid hurts a bit - there's a kind of rawness to it, well-executed.

03. Hammerhead by [personal profile] such_heights
Doctor Who | PG | 3:34 | Martha Jones
Summary: Prove 'em wrong, girl.
Music: A Brand

A vid about Martha fighting, and shining, and winning. I love Martha so much, and this reminds me why, with her facing down everyone's shit, and always carving her path and making friends. Martha Jones talks to people and she listens and she fights, and she saves the world, and herself. This vid captures her perfectly.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries | PG | 3:46 | Phrynne, Dot
Summary: We don't need no rescuing, we're ok.
Song: Rescue by Yuna

Phrynne faces the world fearlessly and Dot faces her fears; it's a vid about them and all the women of the Phyrnne Fisher verse facing things down and being there to support each other as they do, in good and bad times. This is such an uplifting vid.

Stray Italian Greyhound by [personal profile] kaydeefalls
Summary: what do I do with a love that won't sit still? An Amy Pond vid.
It's an incredibly pretty vid. I have a lot of love for the song choice, which is very much fitting, and also results in a clip of Eleven straining against both the floor and a pair of handcuffs to the lyric "stray Italian greyhound" - that just makes me really, mysteriously, happy. The Amy in this is fantastic. She is so very much herself and having all kinds of adventures and doing things. It's excellent.

Black Dove (January) by [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic
Summary: River Song was a January girl, she never let on how insane it was.
It's an interesting examination of River's identity and some of its realities. It's another vid that's really pretty and uses an excellent song. The vid pieces together all of these little moments that make up River's story and her identity. It's River, so I've a pretty strong *clutch to chest and cherish forever* urge with this vid. Her story's a little sad and a lot defiant; the vid is also those things.
(Song: Black-Dove (January) by Tori Amos)

Begin by [personal profile] such_heights
Summary: "I'm thinking about how I just want to open up and give and give and give."
It's a vid about Martha's journey and, kind of incidentally, about how Martha is continually awesome. The song that it uses doesn't have lyrics that do the heavy-lifting for the Martha is awesome thing, and it's not a song with a lot of drive or edge that way, it's a little quieter with that message, with more showing than telling. It's wonderful.

So, [personal profile] sinesofinsanity showed me the trailer for Sucker Punch Saturday morning. We said things like "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "her face" and "video games" and "explosions" at each other and then [personal profile] sinesofinsanity looked it up on imdb and wiki and we gleefully repeated phrases like "female ensemble cast", "Alice in Wonderland", "1950s" and "baby dragon". So, essentially: young women, action-fantasy, explosions. I'm looking forward to it.

Kind of in response to some things that are being watched and the ridiculously good mood that [personal profile] sinesofinsanity sent me off in Saturday: vid recs.

Suddenly I See by [personal profile] kuwdora
Castle
One of the things that's great about Castle is that its lead is surrounded by awesome women. This is a vid about three women in Castle's life and his relationship with each of them. It is an exceptionally happy thing and wonderful. I really like the way city shots are used in the song's intro and the way the song is divvied up. There are very distinct sections that flow really well. I like the way each woman gets approximately equal billing time and the content itself is joyous and fun.
(Song: Suddenly I See by KT Tunstall)

OMG! by [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24
Doctor Who/Torchwood
This is a hilarious and wonderful tribute to new Who companions. It's another one of those vids that uses its song really well. [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 uses a bootlegged version of the song that has all of these DJ voice-overs meant to prevent bootlegging, so there's a bit of potential inherent in the song for things to have gone rather pear-shaped in the vidding process. This is not so, instead the vid is made exponentially more awesome by the inclusion of all of these extraneous bits. The majority of the vid is a lovely tribute to the female companions and then there are these glorious bits with Jack that enhance it; it's a really fun piece.
(Song: Oh My God performed by Mark Ronson feat. Lily Allen)

Five Years' Time by [personal profile] such_heights
Doctor Who
So this is the part where I admit that I ship Amy/Rory something furious because they are both awesome and they are adorable together. This is a ship vid and it is amazing. It is gloriously happy-making and captures the pairing incredibly well. There's best friends, squabbling, laughing, fumbling, epicness, and love throughout along with this great scrapbook of time feel born out of the use of stills opening and closing. It's incredibly joyful.

The happiest ship in the world made bloody disturbing. It explores a very interesting idea. I love the use of secondary footage in this vid.

Handlebars by [livejournal.com profile] flummery
Doctor Who
The video synchs with the lyrics of the audio in all sorts of wonderful ways. It is, by turns, wonderfully amusing and frigheningly true in the story it tells. It reminds me of a number of the doctor's more scary aspects and the ending is perfect.

Arthur is such a bitch. The vid's incredibly pretty and rather well structured. Much of what I like about the show is here.

Explanatory vids, and a vid that is perhaps, ok, it's crack, but it's delicious.

Doctor Who - Space Dementia (Doctor/Master) by nastally
This video is incredibly, incredibly useful if you haven't seen or didn't grow up with the old Doctor Who series.  It combines clips from both the old and new series and is pretty much a crash-course on the relationship between the Master and the Doctor.  I wouldn't class it as a typical ship vid.  That said, it does create a better understanding of it.

Doctor Who - Hanging by a Moment (Doctor/Sarah Jane) by nastally
This is kind of really nice dryer fluff.  The kind that's still warm and is all soft and stuff.  It's a good look at the Doctor with one of his companions.  It has kind of a scrap book feel to it, actually - the sort of thing that you'd pull out when you were feeling a bit nostalgic and wanted to look back.

Papa Don't Preach by [personal profile] fan_euniceand [personal profile] trelkez
The extent to which I am in love with this vid has, I think, slightly disturbed others, or possibly left them in a state of fuzzy confusion, I'm not sure.  Yes, it's set to that Madonna song, and it's Torchwood/Doctor Who, and mpreg.  *cackles gleefully*  It's completely brilliant.  The song acts as narration to the epic tale of Jack's unplanned pregnancy and his adventures in love.
