Obama Victorious in Primaries

You know, don't you, that he's only going to break your heart?
I'd like to start off by saying that I don't follow American politics. I'm not sure I can; I think it might hurt too much, to see an immensely powerful nation do such injuries to themself and the world, but I've heard you speak of this man, and there's just so much in your eyes when you do.
You look so hopeful, so completely enraptured with his words, and his promises. He's the gentleman knight in your mind, come to save you from the horror of your world. He's not the man who's held you hostage these long years; he's different.
The only other black men I can ever remember having seen give a political speech in America off-hand are Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. I see an echo of that in Obama, that "We shall overcome!" and it is, oh, oh so tempting to believe. I understand.
I understand, sweetie, but you can't do that to yourself, you just can't. You're building up your hopes so high, and there's nothing they can do but fall and crush you in the end. He may never make it into office - a lot of times in an economic downturn the more conservative party gets elected: you need to be ready for that.
If he does make it there, who knows what will happen. Maybe some things will change but you have to know that he's a politician: you can't ever forget that. He might keep his word and he might not. He might not live to run for a second term.
I'm watching this and thinking, "this will all end in tears," and I don't want to be that robot, dear, I don't, and I know that I can't tell you what to believe or what to do, but darling, please, don't let yourself get hurt if you can help it.
