So... this has been a long time coming, and I am blaming it on
sinesofinsanity because
sinesofinsanity has a way of reinforcing this type of thing, and also, it is convenient. (Do not judge me.)
Go Back to Canada by The Angry Beavers
This is weird, and wonderful, and a little bit bad. (You can tell it's American because of the Dudley Do-Right clones and the way in which the Québécois are mocked.) I, um, really like the end (1:49 on) - possibly more than I should.
Also: I have a confession to make: I kind of like how awkward and strange our Prime Minister is. In the face of relatively wide-spread allegations of being a robot and eating babies, the sort of thing that's wont to show up in Canadian politics, he does some glorious things.
I think the robot-thing spawned what I can only think of as his slightly-questionable-given-his-voter-base cowboy look a few years ago. Most recently, as a reaction to some outrage that he stirred up in the art's community, has been his performance at the National Arts Council gala. (Questionable Song Choices FTW!) The day after that came up, the top three youtube hits for Stephen Harper were that, followed by the Rick Mercer Report segment with the sleep-over at 24 Sussex and the CBC News segment about This Hour Has 22 Minutes reporter, Geri Hall's interview with him. (That last one there is an entirely different level of special, and makes me think of a famous Trudeau quote - "there's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation" - and then tweak it a little, mentally, because those are words I never wanted to hear our illustrious leader say, possibly especially in that tone.)
...and as long as we're in the realm of the sort of thing that inspires political RPF... can I just say that I find it strange that I've never run into Canadian politics RPF, because I think there's material. There's the Trudeaus and the Belinda Stronach/Peter MacKay thing, etc. It's odd, or as odd as a lack of RPF can ever be.
