I was so excited for the Eleventh Doctor, not because I don't love Ten, but because I felt as though his leaving was dragging and dragging on, ever since RTD's fake-out regeneration in The Stolen Earth/Journey's End, and I'm glad to be getting some new blood. I was so excited once an interview with Matt Smith came out - he was young and a bit zany and an utterly magnificent hand-talker, but then the regeneration happened, and my first thought was something like, "oh, fuck. He's playing Tennant." Doctor Who is about change, and the regeneration is about change, and then I didn't feel like there was any and I was so disappointed.

I'm kind of... warily optimistic, though. Ten's last words "I don't want to go." were perfect, in no small part because we didn't want him to go, either. His regeneration makes a lot of sense, with that in mind. It's also pretty fascinating because this is the first time we've seen him regenerate on his own. (The Time Lord Regenerates to Mate) I'm excited to see who this Eleventh Doctor is - more and more so as I re-watch the clip - and I wait in eager anticipation of the hand-talking.

I actually really liked all of that companion visiting at the end. I feel like a lot of things got put to rest with that. Martha and Mickey were unexpected but make a lot of sense, really, and I am so very amused, that as the Doctor's going around, saying his goodbyes, making amends and righting wrongs for his companions, what he gives Jack is a hook-up. (I mean, it's also a distraction and a cheer-up, but still. I need to re-watch Voyage of the Damned now.) The Doctor is Captain Jack's wingman. I'm amused.

There was so much happening in this episode, and I liked it a lot more than the first half. I think a lot of my problem with The Master was that I wanted him back exactly how he was, and he wasn't. (That and I found some of the effects really annoying and there were fewer of them in the second half. I think there's a saying that when you're writing fantasy you should never use magic if you don't have to, and I think the same thing goes with special effects - a lot of what was used felt unnecessary and kind of cheap - bad.) I adjusted and he was more familiar in the second half; I liked him again and I think I may well do if I re-watch the first half.

There's so much more in this episode but I think that's all I can really write about right now. [It's odd; I want Jenny back, still. (And this is something I'm thinking amidst all of this other stuff.)]
