kiki_engSo an American chap named Joshua Muravchik wrote a book called Heaven on Earth: The Rise and Fall of Socialism, and a while ago I stumbled on a short excerpt of it up on the pbs website:

It's an interesting idea, that a political doctrine would be a substitute for a more traditional faith. It's fairly straight forward and self-evident in a lot of ways, but it asks a few interesting questions.
