kiki_eng: Annie Monroe of The Like wearing sunglasses (bandom) (Annie wearing sunglasses)
Since I'm still social bookmarking site-less, this is a bit of a link dump of things I don't want to lose rather than anything themed or structured - recent-ish reads.

Well Kept by [archiveofourown.org profile] coloredink
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries | Rating: G | 2,651 words | Phrynne/Jack
"Just a little something, a token of my appreciation for all your hard work," Miss Fisher chirped, already halfway out of his office.
"But--"
"Goodbye, Inspector!" She wiggled her fingers at him and was gone.

+There's some really great tension in this and I love the kind of subversion of traditionally gendered power dynamics within very rigidly gendered environments. I am about Jack wearing Phyrnne's presents at work.

Old Dog by [archiveofourown.org profile] thingswithwings
Leverage | Rating: NC-17 | 16,332 words | Eliot/Hardison/Parker
Eliot's their hitter, and taking on any physical threats to the team is his job, but there's something beyond professionalism – even beyond the obvious fact that Eliot relishes the fight itself – in the way he puts his body between Parker or Alec and any potential threat. Alec has a good view of Eliot's back on a lot of jobs, and he reads something in the tight line of Eliot's shoulder, in the slow turn of his foot as he steps into a fighting stance.
Something possessive.

+More kink! A really great fic about Eliot growing to let himself be loved and cared for and see himself as more than one thing and Alec and Parker being patient and demonstrative.

Longevity by [archiveofourown.org profile] lightgetsin
Rivers of London | Rating: NC-17 | 16,569 words | Peter/Nightingale
I glanced in the mirror on my way out, and blanched a little. That guy looked like he'd gotten less than three hours of shitty sleep on his dad's shitty sofa, and then had only the latest in a long, shitty line of long, shitty days.
"Yeah," I said to my reflection, "I'd hit that."

+Slice of life about aging and acceptance, kind of - well-titled.

The Lion by the Tail by [archiveofourown.org profile] manic_intent
Game of Thrones | Rating: NC-17 | 3,959 words | Olenna/Tywin
"Marry a Targaryen?" Olenna hisses at Lucan. "What nonsense."
Sadly, Cousin Lucan Redwyne was a knight newly minted, and he only stares at Olenna with a certain genteel and spineless horror. "
Olenna," Lucan hisses, looking around hurriedly. "You are talking about the royal House!"
"Royal House, pah," Olenna rolls her eyes. "They're more inbred than usual for us noblefolk, I suppose that does rather make them more royal. A royal pack of madmen, that's what they are."

+I've never been exposed to any of the source material, but these are some enjoyable shenanigans.

How Else Would Sailing Ships Ever Have Navigated? by [archiveofourown.org profile] scioscribe
Jeeves & Wooster | Rating: G | 2,328 words | Madeline/Honoria
“Do you think,” Madeline said to Honoria as the more impressive parts of nature gradually crept up upon them, “that all daffodils are the daughters of sunlight?”
+Marvelous.

Chanel by [archiveofourown.org profile] scioscribe
Clouds of Sils Maria | Rating: R | 3,108 words | Maria/Valentine
“You should try to think that someone might like to see Helena in you,” Valentine said.
+This fic is what I wanted from the film and perfectly within that tone.

she knows her way around by [archiveofourown.org profile] lavendersgreen
Les Miserables | Rating: R | 18,081 words | Cosette/Éponine
“I could find out for you.” Éponine volunteers before she altogether consents to herself to volunteer, and Marius' gaze fixes bright on her. She lets herself tremble a little.
“You would?” He sits up to look more closely at her; he is unrelenting.
“Yeah, Marius,” she says. “I’ll—I’ll talk to her for you.”

+Great college art student AU.

get your fancy pants on by [archiveofourown.org profile] stepquietly
Devil Wears Prada | Rating: NC-17 | 11,773 words | Andrea/Emily
Summary: And here's a terrible truth that everyone knows: we all grow up, and no one stays the same bougie hipster they were when they graduated college.
+[personal profile] glitteryv recced this to me when I did a dwp post and was so right about this fic - it's perfect futurefic, basically, and lovely.

On the Proper Treatment of Rakes by [archiveofourown.org profile] bigsunglasses
Original Work | Rating: G | 7,496 words | OFC/OFC
Summary: Ever since being presented to Society, it had been Diana's custom to avoid rakes.
+Fun regency adventure.

The Bond by [archiveofourown.org profile] WhatIfImaMermaid
Star Trek | Rating: NC-17 | 21,678 words | Jim/Spock
Summary: In which:
-Spock gets amnesia.
-Spock is convinced that he and Jim are a thing.
-Jim doesn’t exactly disabuse him of the notion.
He slips in love with Spock inconspicuously, during an uneventful afternoon, on an unnamed planet destined to become little more than a Greek letter and a Roman numeral on Starfleet’s chart of the Beta Cygni system.
+Amnesia, accidental bonding, and Nyota and Jim being friends. Ridiculous.

Tore a Line in the Sun by [archiveofourown.org profile] stilinski
Teen Wolf | Rating: PG-13 | 44,929 words | Derek/Stiles
"If you're watching this, you're probably some kind of sentient life form responding to my distress call – well, it's not really an official distress call because, well, the hardware for that is kind of crushed, but I'm definitely in distress, so that should probably count for something."
The young man on the screen sighs and rubs his face, jerking his hand away with a hiss. He's bleeding, Derek realises: there's a gash across his brow and the knuckles of both hands are bruised and bloody, and that's only what he can make out between the cracks in the glass and the frame of the camera.

+Space rescues and world-building and a plot like a really good fusion. [profile] starwire will probably want to read this.

Better Fortunes by [archiveofourown.org profile] SmallBirds
Teen Wolf | Rating: PG-13 | 39,622 words | Derek/Stiles
Summary: When a group of sinister men attempt to kidnap Stiles Stilinski from the Brooklyn apartment he shares with his stepsister, Lydia, Stiles is forced to activate a spell that translocates him to where he'll be safest.
Derek Hale isn't sure what to do about the soaking wet young man he finds wandering down a Beacon County roadside during the middle of a thunderstorm, but he feels compelled to help him. There's something about Stiles that Derek finds fascinating, and before long the two become embroiled in each other's lives.
Despite the threat to his life and the sudden upheaval of everything he's ever known, Stiles is having a hard time feeling too upset about that.
+I want Derek to be a gardener always. Plot and magic and danger.

Feel Like I'm Fixin to Die by [archiveofourown.org profile] codswallop
Generation Kill | Rating: R | 14,638 words | Brad/Ray
Summary: Ray is slightly psychic. It's not super fun.
+I love how Ray handles being psychic and how he interacts with the world in response to that - this is a great take on that super power. I really like his relationship with Brad, too, and how that changes in response to events and Ray protects himself.

the king of oak by [archiveofourown.org profile] saltpans
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them | Rating: R | 38,585 words | Credence/Percival
The first thing Percival Graves does after being released back into the world is buy a new wand. He's at Greymalkin's for ten minutes and the only wand that works for him is raw aspen, whiter than bone and so rough that Graves gives himself a splinter conjuring a storm of birds. The wand—dragon heartstring, a most unusual wand for an American wizard, according to a flustered Greymalkin—feels wild, and Graves empties half his wallet on the counter and keeps his hand on his new wand all the way home.
The second thing he does is quit his job, because honestly.
("Grindelwald did his research before he put on your face," Seraphina says reasonably. "And it's not like you're open with your personal life. He has us all fooled."
"He wore
scorpion stickpins!" Graves shoots back, somewhat less reasonably.
Seraphina looks at Graves, his pressed creases, his immaculate shirt, the red ruby cufflinks he's wearing to hide the starved brittleness of his wrists. "I'm sorry," she says. It is not enough to make him stay.)
The third thing he does is get jumped by Credence Barebone in an alley.

+I haven't seen the film but this reads like a really cool expansion on its world and has some really great depths and shadows and character interactions - snappy and pulpy and tropey. I was a big fan of the magic and world in this and its plottiness. There's also tentative domesticity and recovery in this - it's pretty great.
