Summary: Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?
Song: Help I'm Alive by Metric
+ I love this song choice so much and this is such a great narrative vid.

Another Bad Habit by [archiveofourown.org profile] blacktofade
Buzzfeed RPF | 10,238 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane
Summary: Shane has a thing for virgins, which Ryan just so happens to be.
+ The author's note starts "What’s up, virginity is a bullshit patriarchal social construct, but i am weak for so-called late bloomers and this is fiction." A+ voices and lead-up.

Keeping Out the Cold by [archiveofourown.org profile] blacktofade
Buzzfeed RPF | 28,044 words | NC-17 | Ryan/Shane
Summary: After a strange ghostly encounter, Ryan and Shane begin sharing visions via a telepathic bond. AKA: the In Your Eyes AU that no one asked for.
+ unwanted telepathy is always where it's at, and this one was a little twisty - interesting take on the trope

Will Wonders Never Cease by [archiveofourown.org profile] porcupinegirl
Check Please! | 56,840 words | PG-13 | Jack/Bitty
Summary: Eric has landed his dream job: social media manager for the Providence Falconers! Not only does he get paid to tweet, for an NHL team at that, but it’s a job where he’ll be able to make good use of his magic - when nobody’s looking, of course. Everyone on the Falconers is a joy to work with… with the notable exception of Jack Zimmermann. Eric understands that Jack doesn’t like social media, but he could certainly be a little more polite about it.
Luckily, Eric has support from his Samwell buddies, as well as his best friend - a man whose face he’s never seen, and whose name he doesn’t know. They met on an online forum where witches can gather anonymously, since it isn’t safe for them to advertise their existence in a world where magic isn’t trusted. They’ve been friends for years now, but Eric is only just starting to realize that he might have deeper feelings for someone he can never meet face-to-face.
+ because sometimes what you want to read is identity porn long!fic about online friendship and people being disappeared by the state. (I have some questions.)

The City Is At War by [archiveofourown.org profile] gwenfrankenstein
DCU | 2:51 | PG | Gen
Summary: Playtime for the young and rich.
Song: The City Is At War by Cobra Starship
+ The city is 90's Gotham, and the vid is nostalgia-inducing and fun.

Dresden Files | 12,535 words | PG | Gen
Summary: 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Chicago... quite a few things were stirring, actually.
+ Pre-canon, kid!Harry, Bob, and Marcone dodge the wild hunt in Chicago. This was great.

Lovegood by [archiveofourown.org profile] TrisB
Harry Potter | 257 words | G | Luna
She kept her lonely in an elder wood box with silent hinges and a smooth, irregular grain.

A Wizard Did It by [archiveofourown.org profile] ctimene
Marvel | 7,884 words | NC-17 | Matt/Foggy
“You want to name yourself after weather?”
“I have been a sentient statue on top of various churches for six centuries, I am all in for weather.”

+ Crack!fic taken seriously is always the best. Foggy saves Matt, and they fall in love.

hurry up now (it's only getting colder) by [archiveofourown.org profile] returnsandreturns
Marvel | 2,326 words | NC-17 | Matt/Foggy
“Matt,” Foggy repeats. “Thanks for the help, Matt, and I hate to say this because you seem really cool, but you’re way too hot and nobody’s gonna hit on me if you’re talking to me.”
“Oh, uhm—I was hitting on you?” Matt says, smiling awkwardly. “Or trying, at least. I don’t do this very often.”

+ This is tagged "fluff and smut"; that's accurate. :)

You Dance Dreams by [archiveofourown.org profile] lady_ragnell
Les Miserables | 61,252 words | NC-17 | Enjorlas/Grantaire
Summary: For most of college, Grantaire was hopeless over Enjolras, and everyone but Enjolras knew it. Now he’s worked to get over his crush, and for the most part, he's fine. When Combeferre asks him to choreograph and dance in the Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired opera he composed as his senior thesis, Grantaire says yes, even though he’s cast opposite Enjolras, as Puck to his Oberon. The chance to dance is worth the potential problems, and he'll have his friends as a buffer.
He doesn't count on long hours of practicing and choreographing and talking together, while they try to figure each other and their futures out. As much as he tries to avoid it, it seems inevitable that he falls for Enjolras again, and this time it isn't a crush.
+ Words and words of music and dance nerds and repressed feelings. ♥ There is also friendship and poly triads, and that thing where everyone's graduating and needs to find a job somewhere.

Sort Of by [personal profile] anoel
Multifandom | 2:25 | PG-13 | Amy/Karma & Alex/Maggie
Summary: "Tons of queer girls fall for their best friends. It’s a common step in our evolution."
Song: Sort Of by Ingrid Michaelson
+ A Faking It and Supergirl vid about, yeah, falling for your best friend and the angst of that.

getting down to business by [archiveofourown.org profile] etben
Schitt's Creek | 3,579 words | NC-17 | David/Patrick
Summary: They’ve been dating for almost a month, and Patrick still hasn’t even seen David naked, much less had anything approaching sex. It’s completely unacceptable. He had more game than this in high school, which is pretty sad, all things considered.
Three and a half weeks of his hands and his imagination is more than enough, thanks.
OR: David and Patrick have some alone time. Patrick has some ideas.
+ I know Eugene Levy's kid from the Canadian version of bake-off and have never seen this show, but Patrick (not played by Dan) is the newly discovered queer one and he and David (played by Dan) are kind of adorable nerds.

Piracy Is Our Only Option by [archiveofourown.org profile] longwhitecoats
Sense and Sensibility | 1,041 | G | Margaret
Summary: Margaret becomes a privateer.
+ Letters from Margaret. This fic is a joy.

All The Stars And Bleeding Hearts by [archiveofourown.org profile] torakowalski
The Social Network RPF | 40,472 words | NC-17 | Andrew/Jesse
Summary: Notting Hill AU. In which Jesse runs a bookstore, Andrew is a famous film star and they’re both faily dorks in love.
+ Exactly what it says on the tin. This fic is like a hug.

Renegades by [personal profile] starlady
Star Wars | 3:15 | PG | Gen
Summary: Rebels and mutineers/Go forth and have no fear
Song: Renegades by X Ambassadors
+ This was great, though I learned that Star Wars can make me cry at like the drop of a hat now. It is a hopeful vid, though, full of bounce with a kind of marching pace.
kiki_eng: Annie Monroe of The Like wearing sunglasses (bandom) (Annie wearing sunglasses)
Since I'm still social bookmarking site-less, this is a bit of a link dump of things I don't want to lose rather than anything themed or structured - recent-ish reads.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries | Rating: G | 2,651 words | Phrynne/Jack
"Just a little something, a token of my appreciation for all your hard work," Miss Fisher chirped, already halfway out of his office.
"But--"
"Goodbye, Inspector!" She wiggled her fingers at him and was gone.

+There's some really great tension in this and I love the kind of subversion of traditionally gendered power dynamics within very rigidly gendered environments. I am about Jack wearing Phyrnne's presents at work.

Old Dog by [archiveofourown.org profile] thingswithwings
Leverage | Rating: NC-17 | 16,332 words | Eliot/Hardison/Parker
Eliot's their hitter, and taking on any physical threats to the team is his job, but there's something beyond professionalism – even beyond the obvious fact that Eliot relishes the fight itself – in the way he puts his body between Parker or Alec and any potential threat. Alec has a good view of Eliot's back on a lot of jobs, and he reads something in the tight line of Eliot's shoulder, in the slow turn of his foot as he steps into a fighting stance.
Something possessive.

+More kink! A really great fic about Eliot growing to let himself be loved and cared for and see himself as more than one thing and Alec and Parker being patient and demonstrative.

Longevity by [archiveofourown.org profile] lightgetsin
Rivers of London | Rating: NC-17 | 16,569 words | Peter/Nightingale
I glanced in the mirror on my way out, and blanched a little. That guy looked like he'd gotten less than three hours of shitty sleep on his dad's shitty sofa, and then had only the latest in a long, shitty line of long, shitty days.
"Yeah," I said to my reflection, "I'd hit that."

+Slice of life about aging and acceptance, kind of - well-titled.

The Lion by the Tail by [archiveofourown.org profile] manic_intent
Game of Thrones | Rating: NC-17 | 3,959 words | Olenna/Tywin
"Marry a Targaryen?" Olenna hisses at Lucan. "What nonsense."
Sadly, Cousin Lucan Redwyne was a knight newly minted, and he only stares at Olenna with a certain genteel and spineless horror. "
Olenna," Lucan hisses, looking around hurriedly. "You are talking about the royal House!"
"Royal House, pah," Olenna rolls her eyes. "They're more inbred than usual for us noblefolk, I suppose that does rather make them more royal. A royal pack of madmen, that's what they are."

+I've never been exposed to any of the source material, but these are some enjoyable shenanigans.

How Else Would Sailing Ships Ever Have Navigated? by [archiveofourown.org profile] scioscribe
Jeeves & Wooster | Rating: G | 2,328 words | Madeline/Honoria
“Do you think,” Madeline said to Honoria as the more impressive parts of nature gradually crept up upon them, “that all daffodils are the daughters of sunlight?”
+Marvelous.

Chanel by [archiveofourown.org profile] scioscribe
Clouds of Sils Maria | Rating: R | 3,108 words | Maria/Valentine
“You should try to think that someone might like to see Helena in you,” Valentine said.
+This fic is what I wanted from the film and perfectly within that tone.

she knows her way around by [archiveofourown.org profile] lavendersgreen
Les Miserables | Rating: R | 18,081 words | Cosette/Éponine
“I could find out for you.” Éponine volunteers before she altogether consents to herself to volunteer, and Marius' gaze fixes bright on her. She lets herself tremble a little.
“You would?” He sits up to look more closely at her; he is unrelenting.
“Yeah, Marius,” she says. “I’ll—I’ll talk to her for you.”

+Great college art student AU.

get your fancy pants on by [archiveofourown.org profile] stepquietly
Devil Wears Prada | Rating: NC-17 | 11,773 words | Andrea/Emily
Summary: And here's a terrible truth that everyone knows: we all grow up, and no one stays the same bougie hipster they were when they graduated college.
+[personal profile] glitteryv recced this to me when I did a dwp post and was so right about this fic - it's perfect futurefic, basically, and lovely.

On the Proper Treatment of Rakes by [archiveofourown.org profile] bigsunglasses
Original Work | Rating: G | 7,496 words | OFC/OFC
Summary: Ever since being presented to Society, it had been Diana's custom to avoid rakes.
+Fun regency adventure.

The Bond by [archiveofourown.org profile] WhatIfImaMermaid
Star Trek | Rating: NC-17 | 21,678 words | Jim/Spock
Summary: In which:
-Spock gets amnesia.
-Spock is convinced that he and Jim are a thing.
-Jim doesn’t exactly disabuse him of the notion.
He slips in love with Spock inconspicuously, during an uneventful afternoon, on an unnamed planet destined to become little more than a Greek letter and a Roman numeral on Starfleet’s chart of the Beta Cygni system.
+Amnesia, accidental bonding, and Nyota and Jim being friends. Ridiculous.

Tore a Line in the Sun by [archiveofourown.org profile] stilinski
Teen Wolf | Rating: PG-13 | 44,929 words | Derek/Stiles
"If you're watching this, you're probably some kind of sentient life form responding to my distress call – well, it's not really an official distress call because, well, the hardware for that is kind of crushed, but I'm definitely in distress, so that should probably count for something."
The young man on the screen sighs and rubs his face, jerking his hand away with a hiss. He's bleeding, Derek realises: there's a gash across his brow and the knuckles of both hands are bruised and bloody, and that's only what he can make out between the cracks in the glass and the frame of the camera.

+Space rescues and world-building and a plot like a really good fusion. [profile] starwire will probably want to read this.

Better Fortunes by [archiveofourown.org profile] SmallBirds
Teen Wolf | Rating: PG-13 | 39,622 words | Derek/Stiles
Summary: When a group of sinister men attempt to kidnap Stiles Stilinski from the Brooklyn apartment he shares with his stepsister, Lydia, Stiles is forced to activate a spell that translocates him to where he'll be safest.
Derek Hale isn't sure what to do about the soaking wet young man he finds wandering down a Beacon County roadside during the middle of a thunderstorm, but he feels compelled to help him. There's something about Stiles that Derek finds fascinating, and before long the two become embroiled in each other's lives.
Despite the threat to his life and the sudden upheaval of everything he's ever known, Stiles is having a hard time feeling too upset about that.
+I want Derek to be a gardener always. Plot and magic and danger.

Feel Like I'm Fixin to Die by [archiveofourown.org profile] codswallop
Generation Kill | Rating: R | 14,638 words | Brad/Ray
Summary: Ray is slightly psychic. It's not super fun.
+I love how Ray handles being psychic and how he interacts with the world in response to that - this is a great take on that super power. I really like his relationship with Brad, too, and how that changes in response to events and Ray protects himself.

the king of oak by [archiveofourown.org profile] saltpans
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them | Rating: R | 38,585 words | Credence/Percival
The first thing Percival Graves does after being released back into the world is buy a new wand. He's at Greymalkin's for ten minutes and the only wand that works for him is raw aspen, whiter than bone and so rough that Graves gives himself a splinter conjuring a storm of birds. The wand—dragon heartstring, a most unusual wand for an American wizard, according to a flustered Greymalkin—feels wild, and Graves empties half his wallet on the counter and keeps his hand on his new wand all the way home.
The second thing he does is quit his job, because honestly.
("Grindelwald did his research before he put on your face," Seraphina says reasonably. "And it's not like you're open with your personal life. He has us all fooled."
"He wore
scorpion stickpins!" Graves shoots back, somewhat less reasonably.
Seraphina looks at Graves, his pressed creases, his immaculate shirt, the red ruby cufflinks he's wearing to hide the starved brittleness of his wrists. "I'm sorry," she says. It is not enough to make him stay.)
The third thing he does is get jumped by Credence Barebone in an alley.

+I haven't seen the film but this reads like a really cool expansion on its world and has some really great depths and shadows and character interactions - snappy and pulpy and tropey. I was a big fan of the magic and world in this and its plottiness. There's also tentative domesticity and recovery in this - it's pretty great.
kiki_eng: Breakfast at Tiffany's - Holly Golightly - Audrey Hepburn (woman in evening wear & sunglasses stands before shop window) (breakfast at tiffany's)
I am returning to my social bookmarking-less past until Maciej sorts it so that exports are functional and I can actually move to pinboard (yes, I was still with delicious, yes, I should have moved years ago) - for now, a link dump wherein I reread nothing while releasing a bunch of fandom tabs I have on my browser:

Boom Clap (The Sound of My Heart) by [archiveofourown.org profile] femmequixotic and [archiveofourown.org profile] noe
Harry Potter | Rating: NC-17 | 39, 547 words | Harry/Draco
Summary: Post-war Hogwarts has been energized by its new teaching fellows program. Where once bitter enmity divided the wizarding community, Malfoy and Potter chummily patrol hallways together whilst Granger and Zabini seek lost parts of the castle at McGonagall’s behest and Chang supervises Quidditch when not lecturing in Charms. It’s a veritable wizarding utopia and life is predictable for the first time in years. Which is, of course, when everything blows apart as the result of a drunken dare and Malfoy’s life is ruined beyond his capacity to repair it. Ever. In a million years.
One of my joys this past year has been a slight resurgence in Harry/Draco works - they weren't one of my pairings in the sort of height or golden age of that fandom and pairing, but it was a lot of fun to be discovering the dynamic through new works something like a decade later. I have zero memory of this fic scanning through it, but that means nothing - I often have to get, like, a page into a work before I can tell whether or not I've read it before.

A better man might by [archiveofourown.org profile] lowriseflare and [archiveofourown.org profile] threeguesses
Pitch | Rating: NC-17 | 9,397 words | Ginny/Mike
Summary: The day Mike realizes he’s actively looking for Baker’s ass in the dugout is the day he decides he should probably stop slapping it.
This is like, age gap, and sports culture and gender, and sex and kink, a little. (I think a lot of shit is inherently kinky - from G to NC-17 - and am not using that word as code for BDSM; I can't remember the specifics of any sex scenes in this but I do know that I really liked this fic and I think the sex is pretty integral.)

places to be by [archiveofourown.org profile] Sixthlight
Rivers of London | Rating: PG-13 | 6,314 words | Beverley/Peter, Beverley/Peter/Thomas
Summary: Tolstoy was wrong: every happy family is happy in its own way.
Accidental co-parenting and kidfic with a poly bent. Sixthlight tends to write themes that I care about and write really well; I remember this fic as a delight.

the slow pace of geologic time by [archiveofourown.org profile] westerrnredcedar
Check Please! | Rating: PG-13 | 4,258 words | Alicia, Bitty
Jack looks at her and then puts her luggage down and leans in, grabs her into a full-body hug, right there on the sidewalk, holding her so close. She can’t remember when he last hugged her this hard. “He told his parents. About being gay. About us,” he says into her shoulder. “They were awful.”
It's about that, about Jack calling his mom for help, after, and her supporting her son and his partner, being there for Bitty, physically, and her reflecting on parenthood and time, a bit. It's pretty great.

Pants on Fire by [archiveofourown.org profile] Helenish
Inception | Rating: NC-17 | 15,169 words | Arthur/Eames
"Ah," Yusuf says, lifting a reproving hand, "are we calling less than 24 hours of memory loss amnesia now?"
Excellent use of tropes - there's almost a secret identity component with the amnesia - and character and relationship exploration.

Easy Open by [archiveofourown.org profile] Helenish
Mission Impossible | Rating: R | 6,262 words | Benji/Ethan
"So you and Hunt are a package deal these days,” Bryson says.
“Uh,” Benji says, jerking his head up from his computer, ballpoint in his mouth.

I did not expect to like this and buy this pairing but this story was compelling for me.

Desperado by [archiveofourown.org profile] fightingarrival
Star Wars | 3:06 | Poe/Finn/Rey
Summary: There ain’t nothing here for me anymore, but I don’t want to be alone. (A WisCon 41 premiere)
I'm not anywhere near finished processing this vid, so I have nothing on this.

Of Hangovers and Coffee by [archiveofourown.org profile] Madlyie
Les Miserables | Rating: G | 1,514 words | Enjorlas/Grantaire
Summary: prompt: “accidentally broke into your apartment because i was drunk AU”; You would actually expect Grantaire to wake up in an unknown apartment but things don’t always happen like expected.
I don't know that I actually finished reading this, I think I got about a paragraph in and went No! This is not the BNL song AU that I need in my heart of hearts and kind of want to write now and I need to hold onto this fic because it has inspired me.

be yourself my ally by [archiveofourown.org profile] imperfectcircle
Wonder Woman | Rating: G | 15,531 words | Etta/Diana
Summary: “That’s all very flattering,” Etta says when Diana has finally run out of steam, “but surely you have more qualified candidates than me?”
“You are of the world of men.” Diana looks a little embarrassed. “But not a man.”

-- Diana and Etta go back to Themyscira.
I think there's a thing, sort of, where we are, all of us, Darcy Lewis. I think we are also all Etta Candy, and, you know, that's a pretty fantastic vicarious experience in this fic. There's a a fake relationship in this fic. There are rituals and festivities. A+ I mean, there's also some world building if you're into that kind of thing, but I am basically entirely *chinhands* about Etta and Diana dating and the tropes here. (There are kittens in this! There are, like, alien shenanigans. It is fantastic.)

Resource Sharing by [archiveofourown.org profile] rsadelle
James Bond | Rating: NC-17 | 3,476 words | Q/Alec/James, Q/Alec, Q/James
Summary: Q experiences what it means when James says he and Alec share everything.
I remember this basically as filthy porn. Tags include d/s and double penetration.

World Ain't Ready by [archiveofourown.org profile] idiopathicsmile
Les Miserables | Rating: PG-13 | 185,796 words | Enjorlas/Grantaire
Summary: Enjolras presses his lips together. He already looks pained, and Grantaire hasn't even opened his mouth yet. That's got to be a record, even for them.
"I need a favor," he says at last.
"With what?" says Grantaire. "Ooh, are you forming a cult? Can I join? I'd be awesome at cults, I just know it." He ticks off his qualifications on his fingers. "I love chanting, I look great in robes—"

(High school AU. Grantaire the disaffected stoner is pulled into a cause bigger than himself. Or: in which there are pretend boyfriends for great justice.)
Yeah. It's exactly what it sounds like. The really long high school fake dating AU with pining and miscommunication and all of the teenaged things, basically. Solid supporting cast business with other story lines.

Penetration Testing by [archiveofourown.org profile] Toft
Person of Interest | Rating: NC-17 | 8,886 words | Harold/John
Summary: The CIA wants to know what Harold Wren is building for Nathan Ingram, so they set a honey trap. They bait it with John Reese.
God, this fic is basically what I love about John Reese as a character, and makes me want to write meta about kink, and here I definitely mean with reference to d/s. He's like the murder sub? And he just wants to be taken care of and loved and challenged?

The Real Thing by [archiveofourown.org profile] sevenfists
Hockey RPF | Rating: NC-17 | 34,892 words | Evgeni/Sid
Sitting at the table was Sid: Sid as Zhenya had first known him, almost a decade before: dorky, long-haired Sid, his cheeks round with baby fat. He couldn’t have been older than twenty, and even that was generous.
“Wow,” baby Sid said. “Are you
Evgeni Malkin?”
I think the thing that got me with this fic - it's a pretty typical set-up and hockeyrpf loves themselves some age-regression - was the relationships that the present day Sid and Geno have with the time traveler. There's some tension, and a very real vulnerability that the younger Sid has because of his age that's I think really present in his relationship with Geno at this time and adds another layer to their interactions, as well as the interactions that Sid has with his younger self; I think it's a really interesting exploration of the sort of vulnerability of youth in this fic, and also power dynamics in relationships to some extent, and the dynamics of relationships in general and the tensions that exist in them, even when you are on even footing.

Under Yellow Moons by [archiveofourown.org profile] skoosiepants
Teen Wolf | Rating: PG-13 | 17,127 words | Derek/Stiles
Summary: They stare at each other, half-grinning, and Derek knows it’s definitely the absolute wrong time for this, but he wants. He wants to grin at Stiles over dinner every day for the rest of his life, baffled over yams and Moon Pie Day, and, god, crap, goddamn, when the fuck did he have time to fall in love?
Or
The life and times of Deputy Stiles and Supernatural Foster Dad Derek Hale
Some day I need to talk about how much I love skoosiepants, like, coding those italics just then made me so happy, and there's a kind of bandom style to her work, which is just fun - I've been enjoying this adult human Stilinski-Hale business she's been getting up to lately.

So that's my tabs cleared out, and, like step one in catch-up - I owe a few people some things I need to finish sorting.
